BB Cream, CC Cream or Mineral Tint? I'm confused!

by Renee Johansen |

I totally get it - I am a make up rookie and easily confused by this too! Let's try and clear up some common questions that people ask when trying to decide which cruelty free product is going to work best.

What is Mineral Tint?

Mineral Tint is a tinted moisturiser  - a lightweight, mineral-enriched moisturiser with a touch of colour and broad spectrum sun protection (SPF 20). The FaceStuff Co Mineral Tint is cruelty free and vegan, and the formulation is oil free (so no greasy effect!).

Mineral Tint is made in the USA to the highest EU cosmetic standards, each tube is cruelty free, gluten free, oil free, paraben free, phthalate free, fragrance free, sulfate free, GMO free, dye free and talc free.

Coverage is light. You can use this product with or without moisturiser (I moisturise first and then use Mineral Tint), you can wear Mineral Tint on its own or under your favourite FaceStuff Co Foundation.

I use a moisturiser (currently Good Juice by Skin Juice but Calm The Face Down by SEED + SOUL has been a long time fave) I also use the FaceStuff Co Smoothing Primer because I like the pore refining and smoothing finish as well as the extra SPF.

The FaceStuff Co Mineral Tint has two different options - natural finish or glow finish. Natural finish is just like a standard tinted moisturiser, the glow finish has a more dewy effect (and is my personal fave).

You can find testers for the Mineral Tint here, there is a small charge for test pots (to cover the aluminium pot which can be cleaned out and reused or popped in your kerbside recycling), but you will receive a discount code via email to be used when you purchase the full size product in your shade.

What is BB Cream?

BB stands for Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm, FaceStuff Co BB Cream offers more coverage than the FaceStuff Co Mineral Tint, a bit less coverage than the FaceStuff Co Youthful Glow Foundation and a lot less coverage than the FaceStuff Co Mineral Matte Foundation.

The FaceStuff Co BB Cream has slightly more coverage than the CC Cream, but offers a more dewy finish and more tint (colour). I use Good Juice by Skin Juice (but Calm The Face Down by SEED + SOUL has been a long time fave) and FaceStuff Co Smoothing Primer under my BB Cream.

FaceStuff Co BB Cream is made in the USA to the highest EU cosmetic standards, the formulation is cruelty free, gluten free, paraben free, phthalate free, GMO free, and alcohol free.

You can wear BB Cream on its own or under foundation for extra coverage. If you are looking for light coverage but would like a more matte finish and something slightly longer wearing to get you through a day in the office, you can add the FaceStuff Co Translucent Powder over your BB Cream.

The FaceStuff Co BB Cream is cruelty free and designed to prime and nourish your skin as well as even skin tone and has an SPF of 30 to protect from UV damage.

You can find testers for the BB Cream here, there is a small charge for test pots (to cover the aluminium pot which can be cleaned out and reused or popped in your kerbside recycling), but you will receive a discount code via email to be used when you purchase the full size product in your shade.

What is CC Cream?

CC stands for Colour Correcting or Complexion Correction, CC Cream is a better option for those with pigmentation, blemishes or redness. If you would like to brighten and correct skin tone you can increase coverage by layering the CC Cream with BB Cream or foundation.

The FaceStuff Co CC Cream comes out white, the idea is that it will brighten your complexion and minimise the appearance of pigmentation and redness. The FaceStuff Co CC Cream is cruelty free and has an SPF of 20 to protect from UV damage.

FaceStuff Co Cruelty Free CC Cream

The CC Cream is available in four shades;

How do I decide between Mineral Tint, BB Cream and CC Cream?

I do highly recommend you test all three to see which one works best with your face and fits the best with your lifestyle. You will be able to test the coverage, the tint and the finish for yourself before you commit to a full tube and you'll get a discount code via email to use when you do purchase!

If you have oily or combination skin or you are prone to break outs, the FaceStuff Co CC Cream and the FaceStuff Co Mineral Tint are both oil free formulations, so either of these two might be best for you.

If you have sensitive skin the FaceStuff Co Mineral Tint is Octinoxate free - an ingredient that is great when it comes to protecting from UV rays but can irritate some sensitive skins.

If you are looking to minimise the appearance of hyperpigmentation and/or redness the FaceStuff Co CC Cream is a good option. You can layer it with FaceStuff Co BB Cream or foundation for extra coverage.

FaceStuff Co Mineral Tint offers the least coverage, and is available in natural (semi matte) and glow (dewy) finishes. FaceStuff Co CC Cream offers light coverage and a semi matte finish. BB Cream offers light to medium coverage and a dewy finish.

FaceStuff Co Mineral Tint is SPF 20, FaceStuff Co CC Cream is SPF 20 and FaceStuff Co BB Cream is SPF 30 - so if you are looking for slightly more coverage, more tint (colour) and more sun protection, BB Cream is a good option.

If you're still confused, definitely start here at the test pots, or get in touch if you've got some more questions.
